Right now, the automotive sector is the main engine, accounting for 45% of those installations, though sectors like chemicals, plastics, and metals are gaining traction. When it comes to career paths, you have a few ways in. You could go the engineering route—designing cells as a robotics engineer, managing controls as a PLC/SCADA pro, or diving into software and perception if you are into ROS and navigation. Embedded systems work is a solid choice for those who love hardware, while mechatronics folks focus on the physical side of CAD and actuators. For those who prefer being on the ground, field service roles are consistent, and application engineering offers a nice blend of tech and client interaction. If research is your goal, top-tier spots at places like the IITs or DRDO usually demand a master's or PhD. Job hotspots are clustered in the usual suspects: Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, and the Delhi NCR, along with manufacturing hubs in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Getting into the field usually means a degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Mechanical engineering, though ITI and diploma holders can carve out a great career in maintenance by picking up PLC certifications. Here is the reality check: employers care way more about what you can build than where you got your degree. If you show up with a portfolio of DIY robots, competition experience from events like Robocon, or relevant internships, you are already ahead of the pack. Salaries are all over the place depending on your location and niche, but for a fresh B.Tech grad, expect something in the ₹4 to 7 LPA range. Mid-level roles generally hover between ₹8 and 15 LPA, while specialized experts in AI or autonomous systems can push past ₹15 to 22 LPA, especially in deep-tech or multinational environments. Just keep in mind that the industry is still maturing; smaller firms are often still sticking to traditional labor, and the sector is highly sensitive to shifts in manufacturing investment. It is a field that rewards patience and a bit of flexibility.
